My name is Valerie Wilson and a love of fabric and quilts began the moment I curled up beneath one of my grandmother’s quilts as a child. I've worked with fabrics since childhood, learning embroidery from my grandmother and garment sewing from my mother.
I started out creating traditional quilts but soon wanted to find out how to create pictures from fabric. In 2002, I started quilting and in 2014, fibre art became my full-time occupation.
Having been the owner of an architectural antique business, I have a keen interest in old houses and the people who lived in them. Thus my current series; vintage portraits based on those brilliant old photos depicting the way we once were. I combine a love of history and a curiosity about people from the past, to capture character in fabric and a moment in time.
This love of capturing a moment in time extends to my other work which is more based on nature themes.
