For me summer is linked to the Mediterranean Sea, especially to Greece where all my in-laws live. It was pretty easy to choose the colors for this piece: blues for the sea and yellows for the light and the sand beaches. I pulled out all the small leftovers from past work and I just started cutting up small squares. I then decided to work abstractly, in order to just refer to an impression of sea, salt, sand, sun and light. I allowed a couple of red small pieces to jump in, to show the strength and the beauty of nature in those summer months. As for the quilting, I tried to differentiate the sky with circles, the bottom blues with wavy lines and the earth and sand with squarish lines.
