Conversation with the Earth: for me, the Earth's most important attraction is its history of civilizations, everything that mankind has created. Without civilizations, the Earth remains for me an inanimate pebble among the other planets. Of course, nature has created beauty by chance, but true organized beauty is the work of man.
I've always wondered why certain civilizations disappear, after having flourished so much and reached a peak of harmony. Artistic works teach us a great deal about the organization of life, spirituality and man's representation in the universe.
I chose to do a series of Crossed Civilizations, imagining that our ancestors are still with us, bringing us their wisdom. For this first volume, I chose ancient Egypt, which continues to fascinate us to this day - the pyramids, the Sphynx, that curious approach to the image of man known as "aspective". Since Greek antiquity, we've been accustomed to perspective, i.e. what we see from a single point of view, at a given moment. Aspective representation, on the other hand, can combine several points of view of the same character, which is why we find the head in profile, but the torso in front, the legs well apart to represent movement, a kind of construction that goes beyond physical representation to reach a symbolic image.
In order to cross our time and ancient Egypt, I created images using Artificial Intelligence (prompts such as "a pharaoh walks a sphynx in the metro"), then I modified the images to suit my needs and did inkjet prints on fabric and organza. At the same time, I created a few pieces of collagraphy to complement my 30-year collection of Egyptian-patterned fabrics. All these elements intertwine to form a personal vision of this enriching creative journey.
