Inspiration for this piece are the Cube Houses in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
These Cube houses (Dutch: kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses in Rotterdam designed by architect Piet Blom built in 1977.
When we were discussing ideas for our pieces for the theme Architecture, the term "on the edge" was used often. I thought this subject was a good choice for my piece:
The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. The total area of the apartment is around 100 square metres (1,100 sq ft), but around a quarter of the space is unusable because of the walls that are under the angled ceilings!
There are actually people living there, can you imagine? One of the houses is open to the public.
On The Edge 24 x 24 inch.
